As part of Platform 008, which was launched in November 2014 and will run to April 2015, Ibraaz is inviting cultural practitioners to articulate critical views on how we might productively map the historical and contemporary relationships that exist between the regions of the Middle East and the Global South. This month, we publish essays by Mahmoud Abu Hashhash, Gilles Kepel and Adrian Dannatt on the work of, respectively, Basma Alsharif, Romuald Karmakar and Nikolaj Skyum Bendix Larsen. We are also pleased to publish interviews with Nav Haq and Youmna Chlala, who is also featured in the projects section alongside Rosana Palazyan and Ariel Hassan.

In the upcoming months, we will be publishing essays by Rheim Alkadhi, Lara Khaldi, Diana Nawi, Natasha Ginwala, Tirdad Zolghadr, Nahrain Al-Mousawi, among others, as well as interviews and projects with and by artists including Uriel Orlow, Yogesh Barve, Aikaterini Gegisian, Taus Makhacheva, Vangelis Vlahos, Malak Helmy, Mounira Al Solh, Santiago Mostyn and Basma Alsharif.
A selection of essays and projects from Platform 008, alongside newly commissioned texts, will be published in April 2016 as part of our Visual Culture in the Middle East Series. Volume 02 in this series, Dissonant Archives: Contemporary Visual Culture and Contested Narratives in the Middle East, edited by Anthony Downey, will be published in April 2015.
